Autumn Camping in Maine

9/22/25 - Lamoine State Park, Lamoine, Maine. We slipped in a quick over-the-weekend camping trip to Downeast, Maine. This park on the mainland looking out towards Mt. Desert Island, is a gem. Once a Naval Station, there is now a Maine Department of Marine Resources station there. We heard loons, lobster boats, and some strange growling in the night… maybe seals? It’s been a very dry summer in all of New England but the foliage is starting to turn and it is lovely. The blueberry barrens were a gorgeous array of maroons and red rust colors. We woke to 42 degrees on Sunday and headed over to Schoodic Point before heading home. I love camping. The simplicity of sleeping, eating, and walking in nature is a divine retreat.
